Click here and we'll send you our resource that takes the time and guess work out of planning Frequently Asked Questions Q: When do most people visit the UP? A: We found July and August were super packed - all the popular spots were pretty crowded. If you want nice weather without the crowds, we'd suggest coming in June or September instead. Q: When can we save some money on our trip? A: We saved a ton by visiting in spring and fall! Our hotel rooms were way cheaper (like half the summer prices), and we found lots of off-season deals on activities. Plus, we got to enjoy all the spots without fighting through crowds. Q: Any times we should skip? A: Late March to early April can be tricky - we call it "mud season." The melting snow makes a lot of trails too messy to use, and there isn't much to do unless you're into winter sports. Q: Is it worth visiting in winter? A: For those who love winter sports, this is the place to be! The UP turns into this amazing winter wonderland with totally different activities than the rest of the year. Just make sure your car has good snow tires, and pack plenty of warm clothes - you'll definitely need them! Ready to start planning your UP adventure? Full reopening is expected to be around the end of 2026. Where to stay in Lahaina Although Lahaina is impacted more by the island's trade winds, which leads to a higher probability of rain compared to southern Maui , it holds history and charm that allows you to immerse yourself into a more authentic Hawaiian experience. We recommend spending at least two full days in Lahaina. 🛌 Find great deals on lodging in Lahaina Getting to Lahaina The best way to get around Maui is by car. If you are planning to visit multiple areas of the island, the best thing to do would be to rent a car. The drive from Kihei to Lahaina is roughly 40 minutes along a paved highway. The benefits of staying on the south side of Kauai is that it rains much less frequently, is close to Waimea Canyon State Park and the Na Pali Coast, and has a high probability of seeing Monk Seals and Sea Turtles on the beaches. We stayed in a wonderful Airbnb right across from great snorkeling at Lawa'i Beach. We found our location to be ideal spot to explore southern Kauai. 🛌 Looking for a place to stay? Find great deals on lodging in Koloa Day 9: Southern Beaches from Koloa On Day 9, enjoy the southern beaches of Kauai . This is why it is best to split your time between Koloa and Princeville while on Kauai, to experience the best of both worlds. We recommend spending at least two full days in the Princeville area. Johnston Canyon Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular trails in Banff due to its accessibility, variety, and unique appeal. This trail winds through a canyon, offering scenic panoramic views around every turn. Venture to the lower falls (1.6 miles round-trip), upper falls (3.4 miles round-trip), or ink pots (7.3 miles round-trip) depending on your available time and skill level. J&L Tip : Arrive to Johnston Canyon early in the morning for minimal crowds and available parking. This trail becomes heavily trafficked by the afternoon. Trail Information Completing the entire Johnston Canyon trail is 7.3 miles round-trip with 1,994 feet in elevation gain. The trail is out and back and is rated as "Moderate" difficulty. Lake Louise & Plain of Six Glaciers Lake Louise is home to awe-inspiring views of a pristine glacier lake. There are 33 hiking trails that start from Lake Louise and lead to panoramic vistas and backcountry tea houses. Some of the most popular trails at Lake Louise are Lake Agnes Trail [4.6 Miles; Moderate], Plain of Six Glaciers Trail [9.1 Miles; Moderate], and The Big Beehive [6.8 Miles; Hard]. Also Read : 10-Day Canadian Rockies Itinerary + Cheat Sheet Parking Information The daily parking fee at Lake Louise public lot is CAD $12.15 (as of 2022). The fee can be paid at the parking lot pay stations and is valid for the full day. We strongly recommend arriving prior to 9am if you would like to park in this lot. If you plan to arrive after 9am, you will need to book a shuttle to Lake Louise. Each of these trails allow a visit to one of Lake Louise's ever-so-popular backcountry tea houses, yet each of these trails also provides a completely unique experience. It was so hard for us to choose which experience we wanted to preference on our day-trip to the Lake Louise area. So difficult, in fact, that we decided not to choose at all. We combined all of these popular hiking trails into one EPIC day-long hiking excursion . Call us crazy, but we did not regret a single second. Moraine Lake & Sentinel Pass Deciding which glacier-fed lake in Banff is most beautiful can only be determined by the eye of the beholder. Each lake provides its own unique wonder and beauty. Among these, is Moraine Lake. It may take some additional prep work to access this lake (due to its small parking lot), however, it is certainly worth a visit during your trip to Banff. While at Moraine Lake, explore one of the numerous hikes departing from the lodge, or dip your toes in along the shoreline. We chose to hike Sentinel Pass via Larch Valley [6.9 Miles], a challenging trail that offers rewarding views. Less strenuous trails you might consider include Consolation Lakes Trail [4.7 Miles], that takes you to the nearby Consolation Lakes, and the Moraine Lake Shoreline Trail [3.2 Miles], that sets you on a nice stroll around the lake. Whether heading out on a long hike or just visiting Moraine Lake for the views, do not leave the area without ascending to the top of the Rock Piles for a phenomenal vantage point of this glacier-fed lake! Although the chance of snowfall increases in September, we recommend visiting late August to early September in order to avoid the crowds and higher prices. Two Jacks Lakeside was the ideal location that offered a lakeside path around the campground, numerous swimming spots in Lake Minnewanka, and one of the most EPIC views we have ever had while camping. How to Book Availability is very limited with only 10 oTENTiks at Two Jacks Lakeside and a lottery system opening in January to reserve all bookings for the summer season (May onward). Check here for the upcoming season's reservation launch date and mark your calendars! On the launch date, you will be selected at random to enter the portal and select your campsite. We recommend having several backup campsites given the low availability of oTENTiks. Our top choices (in order) of oTENKTik sites at Two Jacks Lakeside are # 38 (we stayed here), # 48, and # 54. J&L Recommended Location : O'Tentik at Two Jacks Lakeside ; Site # 38 ; CAD $128 / Night (2022 pricing); Below is the view from our campsite. If you do not prefer camping or glamping, there are several additional affordable options for lodging near Banff. Our recommendation would be Samesun Banff , which offers hostel-style rooms and a few private double rooms. Getting Around Banff What is the best way to get around in Banff? In order to cover the vast territory of Banff National Park efficiently, you will want to have a car. If you do not have your own car to explore, Banff offers several shuttle options to get you where you need to go. Additionally, there are a lot of backpacking trails that will allow you to explore certain sections of the park if you are looking for more seclusion. What airport do you fly into to get to Banff? From the Calgary International Airport [YYC], Banff is a hour and a half drive by car. You can also take the Banff Airporter or Brewster Express from Calgary Airport to downtown Banff (roughly CAD $75 and a two hour duration). J&L Recommended: Use Rome2Rio to select your route in real-time. Looking for affordable International Data? Want to avoid roaming charges and $10/day international data fees? Airalo allows you to download an eSIM to your phone and activate while in Canada for a very affordable price. We bought 1 GB of data which was valid for 30 days from activation for only $7.50. - Venice, Italy: Top Things to See, Eat, and Drink
Fun Fact: Venice is home to one of the world's narrowest streets, Calletta Varisco, which measures 21 inches across. Table of Contents: Top Things To Do in Venice Italy THINGS TO DO WHAT TO EAT WHAT TO DRINK WHEN TO GO WHERE TO STAY GETTING AROUND SUGGESTED DURATION Views 1. St Mark's Basilica St Mark's Basilica brings in millions of tourists to Venice annually. As the focal point of Piazza San Marco, the line to enter this basilica usually stretches the length of the square. Buy your tickets online ahead of your trip to avoid these long lines and enter during a pre-designated time slot. We recommend booking the first time-slot of the day in order to admire the beauty of St Mark's interior without too many tourists. St Mark's Basilica and Upstairs Museum : 15€ / Person. Book ahead of your visit The upstairs museum of St Mark's Basilica contains artifacts and paintings that have been restored over the years. It also provides access to the rooftop terrace overlooking St Mark's Square, the Dodge Palace , and the ever-popular Grand Canal. Appropriate Attire Required for Entry: covered shoulders and knees With additional time, you may consider visiting the Dodge Palace . This ornate Gothic palace holds impressive artwork and takes you on a tour through the Duke's rooms and neighboring prison. Tickets are roughly $30 per person. Visible from the exterior is the Bridge of Sighs, a white-stone enclosed bridge where prisoners were allowed one final view of beautiful Venice before entering their prison cells. 2. Fondaco del Tedeschi View Terrace This was one of the highlights of our day in Venice. The views from this rooftop terrace were magnificent, and the best part, completely free! If time-slots are not available on the day you visit Venice, head to the fourth floor of this mall anyways and see if they have space to add you to the next group. It is certainly worth a try! Free! Book your 15 minute time-slot here! There are several other attractions throughout Venice offering views of the city, such as St Mark's Campanile tower and the Scala Contarini del Bovolo. Our advice is to view these attractions from the ground, save yourself the admission costs to scale these towers, and head to Fondaco del Tedeschi instead for equally breathtaking views! J&L Recommended: Hidden Gem! 3. Basilica Frari This 14th century Gothic church is similar in awe to St Mark's Basilica, however, does not have nearly the crowds or long lines for entry. We were amazed by the beauty and relics within this church, making it a true hidden gem. Entry : 3€ / Person. Appropriate attire required (covered shoulders and knees) 4. Admission to climb the stairs is €8 per person, however, we recommend you save the expense and wait for the views at Fondaco del Tedeschi Tickets: 8€ / Person 6. Libreria Acqua Alta This vintage bookstore features gondola displays and resident cats. The boat displays are more than just a quirky design choice. The bookstore's proximity to Venice's canals means it is prone to heavy flooding. The gondolas serve a dual purpose to protect these books should the waters start to rise within the store. Some say Venice can only truly be seen from the water, with gondolas lining the canals and gondoliers singing romantic tunes as they pass through narrow waterways. Although a boat ride is not necessary to see the highlights of Venice, you may consider witnessing Venice from the water by taking the Vaporetto Line No. 1 (water taxi) which travels down the Grand Canal and stops at six neighborhoods along the way. Tickets are 7.5€ and are valid for 75 minutes (allowing you to hop on and off during this duration). Vaporetto Map: Download the water taxi map here Selecting a gondola ride in the moment will cost roughly $100 per hour. In order to complete our suggested activities, we recommend spending at least one to two full days in Venice Italy What is the best month to go to Venice To take advantage of the pleasant weather while experiencing a minimal amount of tourists, the best time to visit Venice is on the shoulder seasons of April-May and September-November. J&L Recommended : April - May & September - November Where is the best part of Venice to stay? There are two options for lodging when staying in Venice. Some people choose to stay on the island of Venice itself (recommended for shorter stays), however, hotels are limited and prices higher. Others choose to stay outside of the island where there is more affordable lodging but it also requires a tram ride to the island for the day (roughly 1.5€ one way). We decided to stay on the island due to our limited time in Venice. We stayed at a wonderful Airbnb in the heart of Venice at Doriana's house. Our location was perfect and Doriana was the sweetest, most hospitable host we could have ever asked for. If our travels bring us back to Venice, we would book this Airbnb again in a heartbeat. J&L Recommended Location : Doriana's House in the heart of Venice Getting Around Venice Is Venice a walkable city? It is very easy to walk everywhere in Venice. In fact, most places require walking since the island of Venice does not have any cars! Instead, to reach different neighborhoods within Venice you may consider taking the Vaporetto Line No. 1 (water taxi) which travels down the Grand Canal and stops at six neighborhoods along the way. Tickets are 7.5€ and are valid for 75 minutes (allowing you to hop on and off during this duration). The best way to determine the timetable for the water taxi is by searching directions within Google Maps. How do you get to Venice from the Airport? There are several ways to reach the island of Venice from Marco Polo Airport. The first and quickest is by bus ACTV number 5 or bus ATVO to Piazzale Roma (15-30 minutes and roughly $10/person). The second, and perhaps more fun option, is the water ferry (40-60 min and roughly $10-15/person). J&L Recommended: Use Rome2Rio to select your route in real-time. - Cinque Terre, Italy: Day Trip from Florence
Throughout this Cinque Terre Italy day trip guide, we will make note of the transportation required to get from one place to the next. However, with limited time in Cinque Terre and attempting to accomplish everything in just one day, we strongly suggest booking a reputable day tour from Florence so that you can worry less about logistics and more about enjoying your time in Cinque Terre! Fun Fact: Cinque Terre is a National Park, UNESCO Heritage Site, and home to five villages with brightly colored pastel houses. Originally, fisherman painted their houses these bright colors in order to spot them from the sea. Today, home owners in Cinque Terre are only allowed to pick from five pastel colors when painting their house in order to keep this tradition alive. Table of Contents: Day Trip to Cinque Terre Italy VERNAZZA MONTEROSSO RIOMAGGIORE GETTING TO CINQUE TERRE SUGGESTED DURATION BEST TIME TO GO MOBILE TOOLS 1. Getting to Cinque Terre Via the Viator Day Trip , you will take an air conditioned coach bus from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station to La Spezia (1h 45m). From La Spezia, you are given a full-day Cinque Terre Treno Card (€18.20 value, included in your day trip cost) that allows you to hop on a train to Manarola (7m). This card provides you access to the park and transportation between villages all day long. 2. Manarola (10:15 - 11:00am) First stop on your Cinque Terre day trip is Manarola. From the moment your enter this village out of the train station, you are welcomed with pastel-colored buildings, narrow streets, and bustling crowds who are enjoying a glass of wine with an ocean view. For wine enthusiasts, do not leave this village without sampling the sweet dessert wine called Sciacchetrà that Manarola is most commonly known for. There are several famous lookout points in Manarola that provide incredible views of the town and surrounding cliff-sides. The first is the Manarola Overlook Viewpoint and the second, which provides the iconic picture spot below, is Manarola Scenic Viewpoint . Justin & Lindsay Advice: One thing we loved about the Day Trip from Florence is that it provided the smoothest logistics in Cinque Terre while including history of the villages, food advice, and a knowledgeable local guide. You are given "free time" in each city to explore on your own as much or as little as you prefer. It was the perfect way to experience Cinque Terre in just one day and we strongly recommend booking this tour for your adventure as well! For the money conscious traveler, check out our cost comparison of heading to Cinque Terre on your own compared with the tour. 2. Corniglia (11:00 - 12:30pm) Next stop is Corniglia which is about a 2 minute train ride away from Manorola. From the train station, there are quite a few stairs to reach this hilltop village. If you prefer, there is also a shuttle available from the train station included in the above mentioned Cinque Terre Treno Card . Corniglia is unique to the five Cinque Terre villages in that it is the only rural inland village. Corniglia is surrounded by vineyards and terraces, making it an ideal location to sample some wine and Italian foods! Hiking Option: If you are spending more than a day in Cinque Terre and would like to explore the national park's hiking options, check out the 3.6 mile trail from Manarola to Corniglia . Wander through the narrow streets of Corniglia and be sure to look down each alleyway for quaint eateries, breathtaking terraces overlooking the water, and magnificent viewpoints from this inland cliff-side village. Foodie Tip : When in Corniglia, a great place to stop and sample some local cuisine is at Cecio Ristorante Camere . Here, you can try Cinque Terre's famous fried sardines and pesto al a Genovese. 3. Hiking from Corniglia to Vernazza (12:30 - 2:00pm) After enjoying a lunch of famous Cinque Terre pesto while overlooking beautiful Corniglia at Cecio Ristorante Camere , we recommend taking the incredible hiking journey to Vernazza. With only one day in Cinque Terre, time does not allow for all of the hiking trails that this national park has to offer (over 80 miles!). However, the hiking trail from Corniglia to Vernazza (2 miles) is one of the most popular and provides stunning views of both villages from afar. With limited time in Cinque Terre, this hike is one to prioritize. Your Cinque Terre Treno Card also provides access to the park's hiking trails. You will need to show this at the park's checkpoint prior to entering the trail. 💡 Important Note: Closed-toed shoes are required to hike the Cinque Terre trails. Failure to wear closed-toed shoes could lead to a fine from a park ranger. About a mile into the hiking trail, you will come across Bar II Gabbiano . On a hot summer day, this is an ideal spot to stop for a frozen lemon slushy (ask for a half lemon/half orange juice for a refreshing citrus drink!), while enjoying the panoramic views of Cinque Terre and catching your breath from the elevation gain. The last mile of the trek takes you back downhill towards Vernazza. The views of this village as you descend from the cliff-side are nothing short of awe inspiring. It is safe to say the most epic views of Vernazza can be seen on this final stretch of the hike. 4. Vernazza (2:00 - 3:00pm) Vernazza is arguably one of the most picture-perfect towns in Cinque Terre. It offers a small beach to cool off on after your hike. It also has long pier that walks out to the water and allows you to enjoy a magnificent view of the colored houses. Fun Fact : Vernazza was the inspiration for the town in the Disney Pixar movie Luca ! Some of the top things to do in Vernazza if time allows is to visit the 14th century church, Church of St. Margaret of Antioch , or climb to the hilltop castle, Ruins of Doria Tower , which dates back to the first century AD. 🍦Foodie Tip: Get yourself some cinnamon & tiramisu gelato from Gelateria II Porticciolo . The gelato here was our favorite in all of Italy! 5. Monterosso (3:00 - 4:00pm) Hop back on a train in Vernazza and after three minutes you will arrive in Monterosso, the northernmost village in Cinque Terre. Monterosso is the largest of the Cinque Terre villages and is surrounded by lemon trees, vineyards, and olive trees. Hiking Option : If you are spending more than a day in Cinque Terre and time allows, another spectacular hiking option is the 2.3 mile trail from Vernazza to Monterosso . About 15 minutes into this trail, there is a spectacular view of Vernazza around this pin-point . Monterosso is most well-known for its expansive beaches, especially after Spiaggia di Fegina was named one of the world's sexiest beaches by Forbes Magazine. Other things to do in Monterosso include climbing up to Statua di San Francesco d'Assisi to see panoramic views of the village (10 min walk from the historic village), visiting the 14th century church, Parrocchi S. Giovanni Battista , and tasting the village's most famous food and drinks. We have several food & drink tips for Monterosso, the first being Monterossini from Pasticceria Bar Laura . This warm, dark chocolate-filled pastry can only be found in Monterosso so it is certainly worth making the time to try (pictured below)! The second is the pan fritto with stracchino cheese served at Il Frantoio . Finally, sample some delicious Monterosso white wine at Enoteca Internazionale Winery or grab a bottle to enjoy on the beach! 6. Boat Ride to Riomaggiore (4:00 - 4:45pm) From the northernmost village of Monterosso, a unique way to travel to the southernmost village of Riomaggiore is by boat! This allows you to view all five villages from the water, which is a surreal experience. The ferry service is called Consorzio Marittimo Turistico Cinque Terre and only runs if weather conditions are safe. Therefore, we recommend buying your ticket in person in order to verify it will be running on the day of your travels. If the ferry is not running on the day of your travels, it takes about 14 minutes by train to travel south to Riomaggiore. Ferry Tickets: 11€ /Person for a one-way journey (all ticket costs and logistics are included in the Viator Day Trip ). You board the ferry in Monterosso at the end of the pier outside the historic village, near many of the other boat tours . 6. Riomaggiore (4:45 - 5:15pm) Riomaggiore is yet another picture-perfect village with brightly colored pastel houses that contains a small harbor for swimming and sunbathing. The marina is filled with fishing boats and houses that appear to be stacked on top of one another in this small cliff-side village. Heading south from the ferry dock will lead you to the small, tucked-away Spiaggia di Riomaggiore beach . North from the ferry dock will lead you to this iconic picture spot , as well as, other attractions that Riomaggiore has to offer. Heading into town, you may consider stopping at the 2nd century church, San Giovanni Battista of Riomaggiore , and the 2nd century stone Castello di Riomaggiore if time allows. 7. La Spezia and Return to Florence (5:15 - 7:30pm) Last but not least, take the train 8 minutes to La Spezia and you are back in the port city where your adventures in Cinque Terre first began. From here, you can board the air conditioned coach provided by the Viator Day Trip and head back to Florence with enough time to eat dinner in the city. If you have additional days in Cinque Terre, you may consider spending some time in the beautiful city of La Spezia as well. Some of the top things to do include visiting Castello San Giorgio , the Technical Naval Museum of Spezia , and dining at the popular La Taverna del Metallo for some noms and brews. Planning Your Trip How to get from Florence to Cinque Terre There are two ways to experience Cinque Terre as a day trip from Florence. We have outlined both ways and their current costs (as of 2022) below: The first option is planning your own transportation, tickets, and timetable in Cinque Terre. We have outlined the below costs per person for this scenario ( estimated total: $69-95 per person ) A train ticket from Florence to La Spezia will vary based off your needs. A round-trip, non-stop ticket from Firenze Campo Marte to La Spezia Centrale will cost roughly $63 and take 1h 43m each way. A round-trip ticket from Firenze S.M. Novella (more frequent trains) to La Spezia Centrale with one train change in Pisa will cost roughly $49 and take 2h 9m each way. One adult full-day Cinque Terre Treno Card will cost €18.20 (~$20). This will allow you access to the trains and shuttles throughout all five Cinque Terre villages, as well as, access to the park's hiking trails. [Optional] Taking the ferry from Monterosso to Riomaggiore with ferry service Consorzio Marittimo Turistico Cinque Terre in order to see all five villages from the water will cost roughly €11 (~$12). The second option is by booking a Day Trip from Florence . This option includes everything below and costs roughly $104 per person : Air conditioned coach bus from Firenze S. M. Novella to La Spezia Centrale including a history of the towns being passed along the way, such as Luca and Pisa (1h 43m; $63+ value). All train, shuttle, and park entrance fees ($20 value) Boat ferry tickets (weather permitting) from Monterosso to Riomaggiore ($12 value) History of each town, as well as, dining and experience advice from a local guide Free time in each village available at your choosing Discounted lunch of local seafood assortment and pesto al a Genovese in Corniglia Optional hiking along one of Cinque Terre's most iconic trails J&L Recommended: The Day Trip is worth the extra cost to not have to worry about logistics with such a packed itinerary. How many days in Cinque Terre is enough? With a full itinerary of destinations within Italy , we thought a day trip to Cinque Terre allowed us to view the highlights of each village. However, can one truly spend enough time indulging in pasta, wine, and epic coastal views? There are certainly enough things in Cinque Terre to keep you busy for a week, with more than 70 miles of hiking trails, wineries, eateries, and beaches. For nature enthusiasts, you may consider starting in Manorolla and hiking through all five villages until you get to Riomaggiore (6 hours of hiking) while spending a night or two in a different village along the way. The opportunities are endless! J&L Recommended : 1-3 Full Days For longer visits to Cinque Terre, an affordable place to stay is in La Spezia. Discover hotel deals in La Spezia below! The top of the dome allows you to see the most expansive panoramic views of Florence and Tuscany at over 26 stories high. These were the most incredible views we experienced during our time in Florence. Warning : you must climb 463 stairs through a narrow, dark passage when visiting Brunelleschi's dome. If you have a fear of heights or get claustrophobic easily, you may consider skipping this attraction. 6. Giotto's Bell Tower Representing Florentine Gothic architecture from the 14th century, Giotto's Bell Tower allows you to experience views of the city at roughly 20 stories high. With 414 stairs to the top , the climb is a bit less narrow than Brunelleschi's Dome and allows for stops at viewpoints along the way. From the top, you have a spectacular view of the towering Brunelleschi's Dome and the surrounding Florentine neighborhoods. Admission : Included in the €30 Brunelleschi Combo Pass or the €20 Giotto Combo Pass (excludes Brunelleschi's Dome) valid for three days 7. Baptistery of San Giovanni The Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of the oldest churches in Florence and is a beautiful structure combining faith, history, and art. The most eye-catching piece of the Baptistery is the tiled mosaics adorning the ceiling in eight segments. These mosaics depict scenes with a large figure of Christ the judge, the Last Judgment, stories of St. John the Baptist (patron saint of Florence), of Joseph, and the book of Genesis. Admission : Included in the €30 Brunelleschi Combo Pass , the €20 Giotto Combo Pass (excludes Brunelleschi's Dome) , or the €15 Ghiberti Combo Pass (excludes Brunelleschi's Dome and Giotto's Bell Tower) valid for three days 8. Museum of the Opera del Duomo With 28 rooms divided over three floors, the Museum of the Opera del Duomo holds many important works of art and religious relics. This museum preserves the original masterpieces that once adorned the Duomo, such as works from Michelangelo, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Ghiberti, and many others. Admission : €8 / Adult 10. Piazzale Michelangelo Piazzale Michelangelo is a hidden gem located south of the river Arno. Recommended by a local, this piazza offers breathtaking views of Florence and is surrounded by gardens. As with most incredible viewpoints, it requires a bit of elevation gain to reach. Once at Piazzale Michelangelo, we recommend also heading further up the hill to San Miniato Church , a Renaissance chapel and sacristy depicting scenes of St. Benedict and home to the first Christian cemetery in Florence. J&L Tip : Piazzale Michelangelo is the perfect place to grab a bottle of wine and picnic while watching the sunset 11. Giardino delle Rose Coming to Florence in the spring? You will be greeted with hundreds of blooming flowers in Florence's rose gardens. Giardino delle Rose is located just west of Piazza Michelangelo and offers spectacular views of the city. Admission is free and the experience at sunset is priceless! With additional time, you may also consider visiting the nearby Giardino Bardini, an equally breathtaking garden overlooking the city. It is said that the passageway above the Ponte Vecchio Bridge was created for the Medici family to travel from their home (Pitti Palace) to work (Uffizi) and back. Today, the bridge is a peaceful setting when arriving in the early morning and turns into a bustling street home to shops and artisans throughout the day. 13. Piazza della Signoria Piazza della Signoria is home to the Palazzo Vecchio , a fortified palace, once the home of the Medici family. Museum: €16.50; Tower Climb: €12.50 14. Cinque Terre Day Trip Cinque Terre is a National Park, UNESCO Heritage Site, and home to five villages with brightly colored pastel houses.
